Competitive Soccer

Santa Cruz City Youth Soccer Club offers a competitive program in which more than 400 local players participate. Competitive teams are designed for players who show an interest and ability to train and play with similarly advanced players. The players enjoy more frequent and longer training sessions than recreational program teams. All of the competitive teams play in the fall and many of the competitive teams play in a spring league as well.

Tryouts for the Jaws (girls) and Sharks (boys) occur in the spring, usually in May, for the upcoming fall season. Teams are based on the players’ birth year. Players may play up (on older teams) in certain circumstances, but may not play on a younger team than their birth year. The fall competitive season usually begins in August and ends in November or early December. The spring competitive seasons usually begins in February or March and ends in May. The competitive program usually has teams for U9 - U19 depending on player demand and coach availability. Please see below for dates and times for the 2026 fall competitive soccer team tryouts. You must attend tryouts in order to be placed on a team. If for some reason you are unable to make the tryout times below, please contact Charlie at compteams@santacruzsoccer.com.

As a reminder, teams will be created based on the new format which resembles the school year age. Information for U15-U19 teams are still to come but will be sometime after May 18th when the tryout window opens.
